GI Kids Day is a gratitude initiative honoring Texas’ military families and their children. On January 27, 2015, military families will gather at the Texas State Capitol to be recognized for their service and sacrifice.
Texas State Representative John Raney of District 14 and Texas Senator Charles Schwertner of District 5 will present for vote in the Texas House and Senate, respectively, resolutions recognizing January 27, 2015, as Gratitude Initiative/GI Kids Day in Texas, encouraging the citizens of Texas to honor our military families and children for their service to our nation and state.
Participating families will be honored in both the Texas House and Senate, and will enjoy a day of activities at the Capitol.
Long-term separation from parents serving in a combat zone, frequent moves and post-deployment challenges take an enormous toll on military children and spouses who proudly serve alongside America’s service men and women.
Military families are strong and resilient. Gratitude Initiative works to honor their service and sacrifice, providing academic support programming for military children from middle school through college to ensure success in college and in life.
Since the events of September 11, 2001, over two million active duty military, National Guard, and reserve service members have deployed for combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over three million family members, including more than one million children, have stayed behind to serve at home. Today, over two million children have a parent on serving active duty.
Gratitude Initiative, a 501c3 tax exempt non-profit organization, established GI Kids Day to raise awareness about the service and sacrifice of our military families and their children and encourage communities across the state to honor military kids in particular.
There are many ways you can show your support for our military and veteran families in your community.
